TWO CHOICES WE FACE by Jim Rohn

Filed under: think tank — oneanuar @ 1:11 am

Each of us have two distinct choices to make about what we will do with our lives…

The first choice we can make is to be less than we have the capacity to be. To earn less. To have less. To read less and think less. To try less and discipline ourselves less. These are the choices that lead to an empty life. These are the choices that, once made, lead to a life of constant apprehension instead of a life of wondrous anticipation.

And the second choice? To become all that we can possibly be! To read every book that we possibly can. To earn as much as we possibly can. To give and share as much as we possibly can. To strive and produce and accomplish as much as we possibly can. All of us have the choice.

To do or not to do. To be or not to be. To be all, or to be less.
Like the tree, it would be a worthy challenge for us all to stretch upward and outward to the full measure of our capabilities. Why not do all that we can, every moment that we can, the best that we can, for as long as we can?

Our ultimate life objective should be to create as much as our talent and ability and desire will permit. To settle for doing less than we could do is to fail in this worthiest of undertakings.

Results are the best measurement of human progress. Not conversation. Not explanation. Not justification. Results! And if our results are less than our potential suggests that they should be, then we must strive to become more today than we were the day before. The greatest rewards are always reserved for those who bring great value to themselves and the world around them as a result of who and what they have become.

Carpe Diem! ;)

Heart disease rates ’skyrocket’ in Asian nations

Filed under: Utusan Malaya — oneanuar @ 11:58 pm

Heart disease rates in top Asian countries are rising frighteningly fast, cardiologists say.
Chinese cardiologist Professor Runlin Gao warned a meeting of experts in Shanghai that heart disease rates in China, India, Indonesia and Malaysia were skyrocketing thanks to fast food diets, smoking, cars and other symbols of affluence.

Professor Gao said that in China alone, 100million people were at risk of heart disease, with one person dying every 15 seconds.
Asian people are also more genetically prone to piling on dangerous stomach fat, which puts pressure on the heart.

‘’So many people are living risky lifestyles but if you ask them whether they’re in danger of cardiovascular problems they say no,'’ Professor Gao said.
He said a survey of 3000 adults aged over 40 from 10 Asian and European countries found 80 per cent had at least two of the major heart disease risks, such as smoking, diabetes, obesity or a family history of disease.

Melbourne’s Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute director Professor Garry Jennings warned Asians living in Australia carried the same increased genetic risks and were often even more vulnerable because of the influence of affluence.

Obesity in Malaysia

Filed under: Utusan Malaya — oneanuar @ 7:19 am

People always have this mindset that people go on diet to be beautiful and that’s it. Women want to look like models and be able to wear small sized dresses and look gorgeous and that’s why women like us go on diet.

The fact that people do not realize, is how much harm that food can do to our body. The sad fact in Malaysia today is that food controls us, and it’s not us controlling our food.

I’ve heard about a very young man aged 32 who died of heart attack, and I have seen a 12 year-old girl weighing more than 80 kilos and suffers from diabetes. Health awareness is lacking in our society.

Parents shoved food in their children’s mouth withouth even thinking of the after-effects. How on earth do you want your kids to mingle around like normal if they can’t run as fast as the other kids or play normally like others, or have low self-esteem when they are being stared at every time, or the fact thay are TRIPLE the size of their friends?

Read here : Alarming Figures on Abdominal Obesity in Malaysia

Some extracts from the article;

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 (Bernama) — A survey has revealed that an astounding
47.1 per cent of males and 60.2 per cent of females in the country suffer from abdominal obesity, which increases cardiometabolic risk.Using waist circumference as a main indicator, the large-scale survey conducted by the
Malaysian Shape of the Nation (MySon) has revealed these figures, sending a chilling reminder that a more affluent lifestyle and unhealthy eating habits are the norm for many Malaysians.

Head of the survey Datuk Seri Dr Robaayah Zambahari said the survey on
abdominal obesity in over 1,893 patients confirmed that a large waist
circumference was associated with cardiovascular disease, hypertension, lipid disorders, diabetes mellitus and heart attacks.
